About The Region

Journey to see the first sunrise each day in the most easterly city in the world – Gisborne. One of the few places in New Zealand where it is still evidence of a strong cultural affiliation with the Maori language still a part of everyday life. The locals are warm and invite you to come and enjoy their unique and contrasting part of New Zealand. Enjoy everything from surfing, long walks on the beach, horse trekking, bush walks, deep sea fishing, diving, golf, wine tasting and much more.

Gisborne is also the third largest producer of wine grapes in New Zealand, behind Marlborough and Hawkes Bay. If you haven’t planned out every step of your wine-tasting itinerary before arriving in Gisborne, don’t stress. Just head for the Gisborne Wine Centre where you can taste and experience all that the Gisborne wine region has to offer.
